In 2009, Mike Okupinski initiated the vision for a small bottle shop and growler bar, and his buddy, Ed Buffington, joined the project shortly thereafter offering up the idea of a curated wine selection. The two firmly believed that Greenville’s culture was ready for something special. They opened The Community Tap on July 1st, 2010, to a thirsty crowd.
With continued support The Community Tap moved three doors down (thanks to very thoughtful neighbors and a willing landlord!) in April of 2014 into a larger space complete with an expanded wine and cold selection, a bar with 20 beers on tap and over 12 wines by the glass, a private event room, and a large deck with seating for 60. Anna Okupinski officially came on board (Spring 2014) as the organizer/whip-cracker for the new and improved Tap.
Ed and Mike continue to have a great time hand-picking TCT's product assortment. "There are so many great bottles out there, and a lot of them at sharp price-points – it’s an exciting time for beer and wine enthusiasts. We just want to share our passion and knowledge with others. As your neighborhood guys with local and knowledgeable staff, you’ll find approachable, with a damn good selection of beer and wine to boot."
Come have a drink with at the Tap, enjoy local food truck fare, and leave with a cold six-pack to go!
WHO CAN I INVITE? The Community Tap is kid and pooch friendly! Dogs must be on lead and preferably on the deck. Please keep your children with you at all times – it is a store full of glass bottles after all!
WHAT ABOUT SEATING? CAN I RESERVE A TABLE? The Tap boasts indoor and (covered) outdoor seating for over 100 guests. Tables and seating is on a first-come first-dibs basis. You’re welcome to come celebrate with a group – but we do not reserve tables. For larger groups, please read information below regarding our private event room.
Y’ALL GOT FOOD? We stick to what we know and do not have a kitchen at the Tap. There is a small selection of snacks and craft sodas, and you’re welcome to bring food from home, order a pizza for delivery, or grab a bite from a local food truck, when scheduled.
The Community Tap is happy to provide a craft beer and select wine experience for your private event! We have a tasting room for onsite events, and can also come to your house or offsite venue. Whether a beer tasting for 10 or a craft beer and wine wedding experience for 200, TCT can make your event one to remember. Contact us to check availability and book your private event!
